We're excited you're considering joining our team. To help you better understand what to expect, we've put together answers to the most common questions we hear from candidates.
About the Team
Q: What is the structure of the design team?
- We're a small, high-caliber team focused on product design, UX, and brand experience. We currently operate under a flat structure, with direct access to leadership.
Q: Who will I report to?
- You will initially report to our CTO. We're focusing on senior designers who can operate autonomously with minimal management. As we grow, we intend to bring on a design manager to support scaling the team and further career development.
Q: How big is the design team today?
- We are lean by design, emphasizing quality over quantity. You'll be working closely with a few exceptional peers across product and engineering.
The Work Culture
Q: What are the working hours like?
- We work "startup hours" because it's what we choose—it's part of pursuing mastery and excellence. Building the best team, becoming the best at your craft, and raising the bar aren't free. Think of the greatest creators, builders, and athletes: they had to make clear choices between their mission and other things. At Range, the best balance often looks like a work-life mesh. The work we do isn't just work—it's our life's work.
Q: Is remote work allowed?
- This is a founding designer role, requiring close collaboration with other founding members and co-founders. It is a highly prestigious and critical position, where being in-person is essential to help shape the culture, processes, and future hiring for the design team.
Q: Can I work on side projects?
- We encourage bringing inspiration from the outside in—whether it's experimenting, creating music, writing, or exploring new ideas. However, at Range, solving the problem of personal finance and technology requires an all-in mentality. Side projects are welcome as long as they never present a conflict of interest or compete with your time and energy dedicated to Range's mission.
Our Hiring Bar
Q: What do you look for in candidates?
- 5+ years of true product design experience.
- Proficiency with Figma.
- Consistent work history (2+ years per job preferred).
- Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving.
- Strong curiosity, grit, and a hunger for growth.
- Passion for our mission and the messy, evolving startup journey.
Q: How challenging is the interview process?
- Our interviews are rigorous but fair. We evaluate candidates on communication clarity, craft, process thinking, and the quality of questions they ask. Just as importantly, we view the process as a two-way fit: we want candidates to find the right role for themselves, just as much as we seek the right person for Range.
Q: What kind of companies do you prefer candidates come from?
- Fintech, AI, or product-driven companies (e.g., Robinhood, Stripe, Apple, etc.) are strong signals, but not requirements.
Compensation and Benefits
Q: What is the compensation range?
- Compensation typically ranges between $150,000 to $250,000, depending on experience and level. Your level will be determined during the interviewing process.
- We also offer equity packages, bonuses, and opportunities for accelerated growth.
Q: Do you offer benefits like 401(k) matching?
- All of our benefits, including updates about 401(k) matching and more, are listed on our careers page for more details.
About Our Mission
Q: What is Range's mission?
- We believe wealth management should be accessible, intuitive, and built for modern life. We're rethinking how people grow their wealth by creating tools that are simple, human, and empowering.
Q: What motivates the design team at Range?
- We are inspired by the opportunity to fix what's broken in finance through creativity, user empathy, and strong product thinking.
- Mission, team camaraderie, and personal growth are our core motivators.
If you're passionate about building great products, care deeply about design craft, thrive under ambiguity, and want to work with a mission-driven, intense, and creative team — we'd love to meet you.
